Witgol Park and Gumokjeong Park
at the Heart of the City
Earning High Praise
On May 14, Gijang County in Busan (County Governor Jung Jongbok) announced that the area around Witgol Park and Gumokjeong Park, located within the Jwagwangcheon Local Garden, is creating a spectacular scene with a variety of blooming roses in celebration of May.
The two parks, considered the core spaces of Jwagwangcheon Local Garden, have emerged as popular attractions for both local residents and visitors during the rose season, which begins blooming every May. The roses are expected to reach their peak in various colors and varieties until October.
Witgol Park is home to about 30,000 rose bushes of 77 different varieties from around the world, while Gumokjeong Park features approximately 15,000 rose bushes of 169 varieties along its walking paths, blending with photo zones to create picturesque scenery. Not only red roses but also pink, yellow, and white varieties harmonize together, making these parks renowned healing spots within the city.
At Witgol Park, the year-round "Light Street Sculptures" combined with the roses have become a popular nighttime attraction. Large full moon, crescent moon, and rabbit photo zones with night lighting facilities have also drawn attention as must-visit spots for social media photos.
Gijang County plans to make every effort to maintain the gardens and improve the environment in line with the peak rose season.
Governor Jung Jongbok stated, "I hope everyone can fully enjoy the spring of Gijang at Witgol Park and Gumokjeong Park, the centers of Jwagwangcheon Local Garden," adding, "We will continue to cultivate these spaces so they can become year-round healing destinations blooming with flowers in the heart of the city."
'Jwagwangcheon Local Garden' is a lifestyle-oriented local garden that runs through the center of Jeonggwan New Town. At the end of last month, it became the first local garden registered independently by a basic local government in Busan. Unlike other local gardens located on the outskirts of the city, its excellent accessibility has established it as a complex space where citizens can enjoy culture and leisure in their daily lives.
