It began when Moonki Kim, Chairman of Sewon Group (Class of 1964, Business Administration) and father of CEO Dohyun Kim, donated 500 million won as a scholarship fund for his alma mater and juniors. The cumulative amount donated to date has reached approximately 680 million won. Dohyun Kim, CEO, and Jieun Lee, Chairperson, along with their family, have continued this virtuous cycle of giving, carrying on Chairman Moonki Kim’s spirit of sharing.
Jieun Lee, Chairperson of the Deokun Scholarship Foundation, said, "I hope that this small contribution for the students will serve as strong encouragement for those who are passionate about their studies and willing to take on challenges. The Deokun Scholarship Foundation will continue to support Yeungnam University students so they can achieve their dreams."
Dohyun Kim, who also attended the ceremony, said, "My father once said that his time at Yeungnam University laid the foundation for the growth of his company, and he wanted to help his juniors as well. It is very meaningful for me to be here today, continuing my father's wishes," adding, "I hope that many students will nurture their dreams and fully realize their potential on this campus, which is filled with my father's passion."
Wichul Choi, President of Yeungnam University, said, "I would like to sincerely thank Chairperson Jieun Lee and CEO Dohyun Kim for their continued interest in and generous support for both Yeungnam University and the local community. It is especially meaningful that Chairman Moonki Kim’s love for his alma mater and spirit of sharing, which he demonstrated over many years as a director of Yeungnam Academy and as the senior vice president of the alumni association, continues to this day. The donated development fund will be used with great care to nurture medical talent who will lead future society. We will do our utmost so that students who inherit this spirit of warm sharing will one day grow into talents who contribute to humanity."
