As a result, Yeosu City will be able to utilize the ICLEI network, which consists of over 2,500 member cities in 125 countries, to seek various opportunities for cooperation, such as policy consulting and participation in international projects. This is expected to provide a positive foundation and momentum for the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo and for attracting the 33rd United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP33, scheduled for 2028).
In particular, Yeosu City has been granted approval to use the official ICLEI logo, allowing it to be used on various promotional materials and official documents. This will strengthen collaboration with international organizations, enhance brand power by leveraging symbolic value, and elevate the status of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo.
Previously, on April 24, the city visited the ICLEI World Secretariat in Bonn, Germany, and signed a mutual cooperation agreement to expand the role of local governments in overcoming the climate crisis, support the promotion of the Island Expo, and attract the 33rd United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties.
A city official stated, "This designation as a partner organization is regarded as recognition of Yeosu City's international cooperation capabilities for sustainable urban development," adding, "We will continue to strengthen solidarity with the international community and do our utmost to ensure the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo and to attract the 33rd United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties."
