Hyunbok Lee of Jeonju University Receives Minister of Health and Welfare Award
for Contributions to National Pension Research and System Development
Hyunbok Lee, Professor in the Department of Finance and Insurance at Jeonju University (President: Jinbae Park), received the Minister of Health and Welfare Award in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of National Pension research and system development at the ceremony commemorating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the National Pension Research Institute.

View original imageAccording to Jeonju University on May 13, Professor Lee has been actively engaged in academic research, policy consulting, and educational activities over the past seven years to enhance the sustainability of the National Pension system and improve policy credibility.
In particular, his academic and practical contributions have been recognized through numerous studies and recommendations on the design and financial stabilization of the National Pension system, while serving as Chair of the Social Insurance Committee of the Korea Insurance Academic Society and as an executive director of the Korea Risk Management Society.
As an advisory member of the National Pension Service's Jeonbuk Regional Advisory Group, Professor Lee has provided practical advice on local-level system operations and was awarded the 'Outstanding Advisor Award' in 2024.
Additionally, through research on the development of life tables, which serve as a core foundation for National Pension financial projections (2021, 2024), he played a significant role in increasing the reliability of the National Pension's medium- and long-term financial forecasts and strengthening the scientific basis for policy formulation.
Furthermore, as the head professor of the National Pension Convergence Major at Jeonju University, he is leading National Pension education for young people and is at the forefront of improving understanding and awareness of the system.
Professor Lee stated, "I hope the National Pension system, which is responsible for the retirement of our nation's people, will continue to develop based on scientific foundations and public trust," adding, "I will continue to work for the advancement and better perception of the National Pension both in academia and in education."
Meanwhile, the Department of Finance and Insurance at Jeonju University is nurturing future National Pension professionals through the National Pension beSTAR program. Each year, many students obtain professional finance and insurance certifications such as AFPK and loss adjuster licenses, achieving high employment rates.
