Buan County Cultural Foundation to Host 'Shin Seokjeong Creative Music Festival'
Submissions Accepted Until August 4
Total Prize Money of 6 Million KRW
The Buan County Cultural Foundation is hosting the 3rd Shin Seokjeong Creative Music Festival, which will begin accepting submissions of original songs using the poetry of Shin Seokjeong as lyrics starting May 12.
This year’s contest is notable for significantly broadening the diversity of genres and formats. It is divided into five genres: pop, art song, gugak (Korean traditional music), trot, and hip-hop, aiming to create new intersections between literature and music. Additionally, the rules for lyric writing have been relaxed, allowing for more creative freedom while still preserving the meaning of the poems.

Both individuals and groups are eligible to participate, with no restrictions on age or educational background. The submission period runs until August 4, and further details about applications and the contest can be found on the foundation’s website. The total prize money amounts to 6 million KRW, with 2 million KRW awarded to the overall grand prize winner (one team) and 1 million KRW to the top entry in each genre (one team per genre).
A foundation representative stated, "The selected works will be shared with a wide audience through music streaming sites, so we hope those who love music and poetry will show great interest and participate."
