Dong-A University Selected for 'Busan Regional Innovation-led University Support System Project'
Dong-A University (President Lee Haewoo) has been selected for this year's 'Busan Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE) project,' securing a total budget of 17.94 billion KRW.
This project is one of the core initiatives of Busan City's regional higher education innovation policy. Through this project, Dong-A University plans to accelerate its transition to a research-oriented university and strengthen its cooperation with local companies.
The RISE project integrates and reorganizes five existing higher education financial support programs, including RIS, LINC 3.0, LiFE, and HiVE. A key feature of the project is the transfer of higher education financial authority from the central government to local governments. In Busan, a project budget of 130 billion KRW will be allocated to local universities through the Busan Institute for the Advancement of Science and Technology in Higher Education (Busan RISE Innovation Center).
Dong-A University has set its vision as a 'cluster-based university cultivating practical researchers that breaks down the walls of academia.' The university plans to foster highly skilled research talent with practical and research capabilities, focusing on future strategic industries such as secondary batteries, energy technology, and biohealth. In particular, the university will establish three new interdisciplinary graduate programs and implement an integrated undergraduate-master's education system to focus on training talent tailored to on-site demand.
Additionally, through the 'Open UIC (U&I Collaboration Model),' Dong-A University will expand close cooperation with local companies and establish its own industry-academia cooperation model, leading technological innovation in the energy and bio sectors. The university also plans to foster locally rooted high-level talent and revitalize the industrial ecosystem through company-participatory curricula.
