Korea Forestry Promotion Institute Announces New R&D Projects for Large-Scale Wildfire Response
The Korea Forestry Promotion Institute announced on May 12 that it will be issuing a call for new projects under the "Intelligent Solution Technology Development (R&D) for Large-Scale Wildfire Response" initiative.
This project is being launched following the allocation of 11.7 billion KRW in the government's supplementary budget for this year. The Institute plans to select a total of 11 research projects within a single program and provide funding accordingly.
The research areas will focus on the following: development of artificial intelligence (AI)-based intelligent solutions for large-scale wildfire response; real-time network technology for wildfire response utilizing advanced technologies; enhancement of wildfire suppression technology specialized for Korea's mountainous terrain; and development of advanced equipment components tailored to large-scale wildfire sites.
Through the implementation of these new projects, the Korea Forestry Promotion Institute aims to secure advanced technologies necessary for large-scale wildfire response and to enhance disaster response capabilities by developing technologies that can be practically applied in the field.
The application period for the new projects runs from May 9 to June 9. Applications can be submitted through the Integrated Research Support System (IRIS).
