240 Applicants for 'Seollendae'
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced on May 12 that it had closed applications for its matchmaking event for single men and women, 'Seollendae', with a total of 240 people applying, indicating a strong response.
'Seollendae', a new policy initiative designed to promote positive values regarding marriage, will select a total of 30 participants for the first half of the year event, with 15 men and 15 women. The application period, which ran for 15 days from April 25 to May 9, saw a high competition rate of 12 to 1 for men and 3.6 to 1 for women.
The city will review eligibility through the first round of document screening and background checks for sex crime records. Afterward, a second round of individual online interviews will be conducted, and the final participants will be notified individually on May 30.
The main event will be held at Robot Land on June 13, providing an opportunity for participants to interact naturally through activities such as recreation, amusement park dates, hands-on crafting experiences, rotation conversations, and a singer's performance. In addition, the city plans to hold another 'Seollendae' event in the second half of the year following this first-half event.
Jang Geumyong, acting mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, "The high application rate is an indicator that young people have a strong interest in healthy relationships," adding, "As the event is being held with much anticipation, we will do our best to ensure that participants can form meaningful connections."
