"Stop the War in Ukraine"
Pope Leo XIV, the newly elected pontiff, called for an end to wars around the world, including in Ukraine, during his first Easter Regina Caeli prayer.
According to major media outlets including the Associated Press, Pope Leo XIV appeared before a crowd gathered at St. Peter's Square in the Vatican on May 11 (local time), and referenced the end of World War II eighty years ago, stating, "There must be no more wars."
Presiding over the Sunday prayer from the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica for the first time since being elected pope on May 8, Pope Leo XIV pointed out that the various ongoing conflicts around the world are tantamount to a third world war.
He called for genuine and lasting peace in Ukraine, a ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages in the Gaza Strip, and welcomed the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
He went on to say that he prays for the 'miracle of peace' to be granted to the world.
