Iksan City to Launch "Delinquent Local Tax Intensive Collection Period" Starting May 13
Aiming to Collect a Total of 7 Billion Won by the End of Next Month
Iksan City in North Jeolla Province announced on May 9 that it will operate the "First Half-Year Delinquent Local Tax Intensive Collection Period" from May 13 to June 30.
The city collected 3.7 billion won out of last year's carried-over delinquent amount of 23.2 billion won between January and March this year, and aims to collect a total of 7 billion won by the end of June.
During this intensive collection period, the city plans to create an atmosphere encouraging voluntary payment by sending out mass delinquency notices and conducting active publicity. For high-value and habitual delinquents, the city will enforce strong administrative measures such as home searches, intensified on-site collections, property seizures, public auctions, and wage and bond seizures.
In addition, the city is focusing on collecting delinquent automobile taxes, which account for about 23% (5.4 billion won) of the total local tax arrears. Joint automobile license plate seizure teams will operate in towns, townships, and neighborhoods to seize license plates four times a week. The city also plans to conduct joint seizures in cooperation with police stations and other relevant agencies, linking these efforts with drunk driving crackdowns and conducting joint operations on highways.
A city official stated, "We will take strong collection measures against unscrupulous delinquents who deliberately evade their tax obligations despite having the ability to pay," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that diligent taxpayers do not feel a sense of relative deprivation."
