On May 9, Kangdeok Lee, Mayor of Pohang, held a candid discussion with representatives of the Jukdo Market merchants, the leading traditional market in Pohang, to talk about current issues and future development directions of the local commercial district.

Mayor Lee encouraged the merchants by saying, "I am grateful to the merchants who are doing their best in traditional markets, which are symbols of Pohang's economy and spaces closest to the daily lives of our citizens," and responded, "We will continue to pursue policies that merchants can truly feel."
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Jukdo Market Prosperity Association, Jukdo Market Shopping District Prosperity Association, Jukdo Fish Market Merchants Association, and Jukdo Fisheries Market Merchants Association. They made a variety of suggestions related to market operations, including improving the environment around Jukdo Market, modernizing facilities, and expanding customer convenience facilities.
A representative of the merchants' association stated, "We will strive to make Jukdo Market a place that both citizens and tourists want to visit," and requested "continued interest and support from Pohang City."
Mayor Lee said, "I will devote even more effort to developing policies for small business owners who are struggling due to the economic downturn and rising prices," and added, "The suggestions made today will be reviewed together with the relevant city departments, and we will actively pursue those that are feasible."
Pohang City is implementing various policies to revitalize traditional markets, including Jukdo Market, such as facility modernization, improvement of aging facilities, remodeling of public restrooms, and maintenance of fire safety facilities.
