The purpose was to enhance the objectivity, transparency, and effectiveness of the safety management system by reflecting the perspective of citizens.
The inspection covered 12 areas, including urban rail stations, vehicles, electrical systems, mechanical systems, and civil engineering, and also included construction sites such as the Sasang-Hadan Line. In the fields of train operation, vehicles, and signaling, members of the Citizen Participation Group worked alongside corporation staff to directly inspect key facilities. The participants received prior safety training to fully understand the inspection items and procedures before being deployed to the field.
The corporation operates a monthly "Safety Inspection Day," continuing its inspections of disaster-prone facilities. This citizen-participatory inspection is being credited with increasing trust in safety by adding the perspective of citizens to the existing expert-centered inspection system.
On this day, President Lee Byungjin personally visited the Sasang-Hadan Line construction site to inspect the condition of drainage and mechanical equipment management, and urged on-site staff to "make every effort to prevent accidents through thorough safety management."
