Muan County Holds "Own Your Tree" Campaign to Mark Arbor Day
Distribution of 3,180 Trees to Residents
as Part of Carbon Reduction Efforts
Muan County, South Jeolla Province (Governor Kim San), announced on May 8 that it will hold a tree distribution event as part of the "Own Your Tree" campaign to commemorate the 80th Arbor Day. The event aims to raise awareness about the importance of forests and encourage voluntary tree care among residents as a way to reduce carbon emissions.
The event was originally scheduled to take place around Arbor Day, which fell on the 5th of last month. However, the schedule was inevitably postponed as administrative efforts were focused on preventing the spread of foot-and-mouth disease in the region.

The first round of the event, held on May 8, coincided with Parents' Day and received an enthusiastic response from elderly residents who came to receive trees. The following event on May 9 is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. at the Cheonggye-myeon Complex Center and at 2 p.m. at the Unnam-myeon Happy Recharge Station, with even greater participation from residents anticipated.
The trees and plants to be distributed include two types of saplings (jujube tree and cherry tree) and three types of indoor plants (coral tree, rosemary, and areca palm). The saplings will be provided at all event venues, while the indoor plants will be distributed as follows: coral tree in Mongtan-myeon, rosemary in Cheonggye-myeon, and areca palm in Unnam-myeon.
Kang Seongwoo, head of the Forest and Park Division, said, "As we celebrate Family Month in May, filled with greenery, I hope this event will give residents the opportunity to plant and care for trees, appreciate the value of nature, and find peace and healing in their daily lives."
