Tom Cruise Avoids Commenting on Trump's 100% Tariff Proposal for Foreign Films
Actor Responds Cautiously at Seoul Press Conference
Hollywood actor Tom Cruise avoided commenting on U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policy. At a press conference for the film "Mission: Impossible ? Dead Reckoning" held at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul on May 8, when asked, "What do you think about President Trump's recent suggestion of a 100% tariff on foreign-produced films?" he replied, "I can't hear you very well." The moderator responded, "That's a wise answer," and moved on to the next question.
On May 4, President Trump claimed on social media that "the American film industry is rapidly declining. Other countries are offering all sorts of incentives to lure our filmmakers and studios out of the United States." He went on to say, "I will have the Department of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) initiate procedures to impose a 100% tariff on all films produced abroad and imported into the United States."
