"Up to 20% Discount Benefit"... Ministry of SMEs and Startups Launches Digital Onnuri Gift Certificate Reimbursement Event
From May 11 to September 30
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on May 9 that it will hold a digital Onnuri gift certificate reimbursement event targeting vulnerable commercial districts, including traditional markets and alley-type shopping areas nationwide.
This event is funded by the additional supplementary budget secured this year and is designed to help recover sales in vulnerable commercial districts and boost domestic demand. The event will run for about five months, from May 11 to September 30. Consumers who make payments with digital Onnuri gift certificates (mobile or card type) will be reimbursed up to 10% of their cumulative spending per round in the same digital gift certificates.
The reimbursement will be conducted over 20 rounds, and each person can receive up to 20,000 KRW per round. Reimbursement is applied in increments of 1,000 KRW for payments of at least 10,000 KRW (amounts less than 1,000 KRW are disregarded). Payouts will be made sequentially through the "gift" function about one week after the end of each round.
Participants must register for the gift function within 30 days from the payout date; if not registered within 30 days, the reimbursement amount will expire. If the balance exceeds 2,000,000 KRW, participants cannot receive the reimbursement. In this case, they must use the amount exceeding the limit and then claim the reimbursement via the gift function.
This event is structured so that each round runs from Sunday to Saturday, unifying the operating days for each round to reduce consumer confusion and encourage continuous participation.
Participants can enjoy up to a 20% discount benefit by combining the usual 10% discount on digital Onnuri gift certificates with the additional reimbursement event. For example, if a participant purchases a 100,000 KRW digital Onnuri gift certificate for 90,000 KRW and spends 100,000 KRW using the digital Onnuri gift certificate during the event period, they will be reimbursed with digital Onnuri gift certificates worth 10,000 KRW.
