Foreign Nationals Arrested for Street Robbery of 150 Million Won in Cryptocurrency Cash
Three Russian Men and One Uzbek Woman Apprehended
All Suspects Arrested at Ansan Residence Six Days After Incident
"Daepo Car" Prepared in Advance, Abandoned in Yeongjongdo After the Crime
Four foreign nationals who stole 150 million won in cash, intended for a cryptocurrency transaction, and fled the scene have been apprehended by police.
On May 8, Incheon Yeonsu Police Station announced that it had arrested and detained three Russian men in their 30s and 40s, including a suspect identified as A, and a 40-year-old Uzbek woman, identified as B, on charges of aggravated robbery.
A and the others are accused of assaulting a Russian man in his 20s, identified as C, on the street in Yeonsu-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, at around 2 p.m. on April 26, and stealing a bag containing 150 million won in cash.
At the time, B delivered 150 million won in cash to C as payment for a cryptocurrency transaction, and it was confirmed that A and the other accomplices, who had conspired in advance, subsequently committed the robbery.
To evade police pursuit, the suspects prepared and used a so-called "daepo car" (a vehicle registered under someone else's name) in advance for the crime. They later abandoned the vehicle on a deserted coastal road in Yeongjongdo.
Upon receiving the report, police reviewed nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and conducted a canvassing investigation. Six days after the incident, on May 2, all four suspects were apprehended at their residence in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province.
The police have also obtained an arrest warrant and requested an Interpol Red Notice for a Kyrgyz man in his 30s who participated in the crime and fled overseas.
