Police Investigate Baek Jongwon Over "Deopjuk False Advertising" Allegations on Ingredient Origins
The police have launched an investigation into allegations that Baek Jongwon, CEO of Theborn Korea, included false information about food ingredients in advertisements.
According to the police on May 6, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul has booked CEO Baek and Theborn Korea as suspects on charges of violating the Food Labeling and Advertising Act and is currently investigating the case.
Previously, the Gangnam District Office filed a complaint with the police after receiving a report that Theborn Korea used Vietnamese shrimp in its "Deopjuk" product but used phrases such as "domestic" and "wild-caught" in advertisements, thereby including false information.
The police are also looking into allegations that "Paikdabang," operated by CEO Baek, promoted its new "Chewy Sweet Potato Bread" in a way that misled consumers into believing the ingredients were of domestic origin.
