Mayor Jung Jongbok personally visited these facilities with private sector experts to thoroughly inspect several aspects: the management of safety facilities and equipment at construction sites, workers' compliance with safety regulations, and the emergency response systems at multi-use facilities. In particular, he listened to field experts about risk factors and management status at each site and discussed ways to strengthen on-site safety measures.
Mayor Jung emphasized, "Safety policies that protect the lives and property of residents must take precedence over any other policy," and requested, "Please strengthen ongoing management and preventive measures so that there are no gaps in safety, not only during the intensive inspection period but also in everyday operations."
This inspection is part of the nationwide "Republic of Korea Safety Transformation" campaign, a government-led social safety movement. From April 14 to June 13, Gijang County is conducting joint inspections with private sector experts over a total of 61 days, covering 72 sites in 14 categories, including construction sites, bridges, and multi-use facilities.
An official from Gijang County stated, "Anyone can request inspections of nearby hazardous facilities through the Gukmin Sinmungo app and other channels," adding, "The active interest and participation of residents is the starting point for building a safer local community."
