Road Subsidence Occurs in Icheon City... Part of Bus Wheel Falls In
Rear Wheel Partially Falls into a 50cm-Wide Hole
1.5-Meter Section Around the Site Excavated
Investigating Cause and Assessing Risk of Further Accidents
It has been reported that two days ago in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, a section of the road collapsed, causing the wheel of a commuter bus in motion to partially fall into the hole.
According to the Icheon Police Station and Icheon City on May 2, a ground subsidence occurred on SK-ro in Bubal-eup, Icheon, at around 2:55 p.m. on April 30, resulting in damage to a commuter bus that was traveling on the road.
At the time, the commuter bus was driving in the second lane of a two-lane road toward Bubal when its rear wheel partially fell into a hole approximately 50 centimeters in diameter. Immediately after the accident, Icheon City excavated a 1.5-meter section around the site to determine the cause and assess the risk of further accidents.
A city official stated, "We are conducting investigations to determine the cause of the accident," but added, "It appears highly likely that the subsidence occurred due to road aging or similar factors."
