Lee Guyoung, Former Director of the Baekje World Heritage Center, Appointed as New President of the National Heritage Promotion Agency

The National Heritage Administration announced on May 1 that Lee Guyoung has been appointed as the new president of the National Heritage Promotion Agency. The term will last for three years, until April 30, 2028.
Born in 1962, Lee studied history education at Gongju Teachers' College (the predecessor of the College of Education at National Gongju University) and majored in history at the same university's graduate school. Lee earned a doctorate in ancient Korean history from Korea University and also received a doctorate in marketing from the graduate school of Gongju University. Starting in 1988, Lee worked as a curator at the National Museum of Korea. In 2005, Lee moved to the Cultural Heritage Administration, the predecessor of the National Heritage Administration, and served as director of Exhibition and Public Relations and director of Artifact Science at the National Palace Museum of Korea, as well as head of the Art and Cultural Heritage Research Division at the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage (now the National Institute of Cultural Heritage). Lee also served as director of the Baekje World Heritage Center, overseeing the integrated management of the Baekje Historic Areas, which are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Lee is also a founding member of the 'Dogwang Cultural Forum,' a group of expert researchers from various fields in the cultural sector. Until recently, Lee served as its representative, leading a grassroots cultural movement. Lee has also served as a member of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and as an adjunct professor at the Graduate School of Cultural Heritage at Gongju University, and has co-authored works such as 'The Royal Placenta Ritual Protocols and Jangtae Culture of the Joseon Dynasty.'
