Ground Crews Intensify Efforts to Contain Wildfire
Nighttime firefighting operations have begun to contain the wildfire that reignited and spread in Hamji Mountain, Buk-gu, Daegu.
According to forest authorities on April 30, the 43 helicopters deployed for daytime firefighting operations withdrew from the wildfire site around sunset. Instead, ground personnel are now focusing on building firebreaks and extinguishing remaining embers.
In the afternoon, as the Daegu wildfire reignited and spread, the National Fire Agency issued a nationwide fire mobilization order at around 5 p.m. A 2.2-kilometer-long fire line formed in the Hamji Mountain area adjacent to Seobeon-dong, where apartment complexes and residential areas are densely located. It is reported that a significant portion of the fire was contained through daytime operations.
Currently, heavy smoke is rising from three areas?Palgasanseong, Mangilbong, and Wondamsa?located in the northern and eastern parts of the wildfire-affected zone. In particular, since Seobeon-dong, with its dense apartment complexes, lies to the east of both Mangilbong and Wondamsa, authorities have concentrated firefighting personnel in this area to prevent the fire from spreading further.
