Goheung County Reenacts 'Ssangchungje Festival' in Honor of Generals Lee Daewon and Jeong Un

Goheung County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Go Youngmin) announced on April 30 that it held the 'Ssangchungje Festival' at the Ssangchungsa Shrine area in Bongam-ri, Doyang-eup, to commemorate General Lee Daewon (Chungryolgong) and General Jeong Un (Chungjanggong).
The event was attended by approximately 200 people, including Governor Go Youngmin, the Chief of Staff of the Republic of Korea Navy's 3rd Fleet Command, the deputy captain of the Jeong Un submarine from the Submarine Command, the chairperson and members of the Goheung County Council, heads of organizations and institutions, and descendants of Generals Lee Daewon and Jeong Un.

View original imagePrior to the memorial ceremony, a parade was held from Doyang-eup Community Center to Ssangchungsa Shrine. Led by the Navy band, students from Goheung Industrial High School, members of Nokdojin Ssangchungsa Mochunghoe, and local residents dressed in Joseon naval uniforms, reenacting the dignity and spirit of the Joseon navy.
During the event, the county governor's commendation was awarded to those who dedicated themselves to the Ssangchungje Festival and contributed to the spirit of national defense and loyalty. Jin Youngpil, honorary director of Nokdojin Ssangchungsa Mochunghoe, and Lee Geumja, director, received the commendations.
In addition, certificates were presented to a total of 10 students, including Lee Suyeon (Goheung Industrial Science High School), who won the grand prize, and Kim Ain (Goheung Girls' Middle School), who won the second prize, in the "2025 Goheung County Youth Writing Contest in Honor of the Spirit of Generals Lee Daewon and Jeong Un."
The event continued with a flower-laying and incense-burning ceremony to honor the patriotic loyalty of the two generals. In a solemn atmosphere, participants entered the shrine and paid their respects to the patriotism and noble spirit of the two loyalists.
In his memorial speech, Governor Go Youngmin stated, "The two generals fought to protect the nation and Goheung, and it is thanks to their determination and courage that we are able to stand here today. Today's Ssangchungje Festival is an occasion to reflect on and reaffirm the noble spirit of the two generals." He added, "Following in their footsteps, I will do my utmost together with the residents to foster change, development, and unity in our community."
