View original imageSince last year, Jeollanam-do has been dedicating its efforts to promoting the Hometown Love Campaign by visiting China and Japan, and large donations from overseas compatriots and former residents who love and support their hometown continue to pour in.
Kim Yongdeok, President of the Tokyo Honam Association, who has always shown exceptional affection for his hometown, donated 5 million KRW, and Jang Jongseop, Director of the Maehon Yun Bonggil Memorial Association in Shanghai, China, donated 3 million KRW, earning them a place in the Hometown Love Donation Hall of Fame.
President Kim said, "I am happy to be able to contribute to the development of my hometown. Although I am far away now, I always long for my hometown that protected me during my childhood, and I decided to participate in the Hometown Love Donation as a small way to give back."
Kang Kyungmun, Director of the Hometown Love Division of Jeollanam-do, stated, "I sincerely thank the donors who have shown unwavering affection for our country and Jeollanam-do even in these difficult economic times. We will do our best to discover new projects for the fund to repay the love and support from those who always keep their hometown close to their hearts, even from afar."
The Hometown Love Donation System allows individuals to donate up to 20 million KRW per year to local governments other than their place of residence. Donors receive return gifts worth up to 30% of their donation, and donations up to 100,000 KRW are fully tax-deductible, while amounts exceeding 100,000 KRW receive a 16.5% tax deduction. The donations are used for projects that improve the welfare of local residents.
