EU Suspends Retaliatory Tariffs on US for 90 Days... "Will Enforce if Negotiations Are Unsatisfactory"
The European Union (EU) has decided to suspend retaliatory tariffs on U.S. steel for 90 days.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, mentioned in a statement on the afternoon of the 10th (local time) the decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to suspend reciprocal tariffs for 90 days, saying, "We want to offer a chance for negotiations." She also emphasized, "If the negotiation results are not satisfactory after 90 days, retaliatory measures will take effect," adding, "Preparations for additional retaliatory measures are underway. All options remain open."
As the U.S. announced high tariffs on European steel and aluminum, the EU also warned of retaliatory tariffs. The EU stated that starting from the 15th, it will impose additional tariffs of up to 25% on U.S. imports. If there is no progress in negotiations with the U.S. over the next 90 days, retaliatory tariff measures are expected to be implemented.
