The meeting was attended by all basic and metropolitan council members, including Branch Chair Yang Bunam.
The joint meeting began with a progress report on the impeachment of Yoon Sukyeol, followed by opening remarks from Chair Yang Bunam, a reading of the resolution, and a placard performance by the attendees.
During the impeachment crisis, National Assembly members from the Democratic Party's Gwangju branch called for the dismissal of Yoon Sukyeol through various activities such as rallies at Gwanghwamun, head-shaving ceremonies, and protest marches. Local council members in Gwangju also continued their efforts to defend democracy through picketing during commute hours, hunger strikes, and tent sit-ins.
Chair Yang emphasized, "We have reclaimed democracy through the efforts of countless citizens and the people of Gwangju. Many citizens stayed up at night in the square, shouting for change, and we must build a society where those voices are realized," adding, "Let us exert all our strength to achieve an overwhelming change of government and create a new Republic of Korea."
