Chungnam Police Operate 24-Hour Investigation Situation Room Ahead of Presidential Election
100 Officers Deployed, Intelligence Gathering Strengthened
The Chungnam Provincial Police Agency will operate a 24-hour investigation situation room in preparation for the 21st presidential election to be held on June 3.
According to the police on the 9th, investigation situation rooms for election-related crimes will be set up at 15 city and county police stations, with a dedicated team of 100 officers assigned to strengthen intelligence gathering on illegal election activities and to establish cooperative systems with related organizations.
In particular, the police have designated five major election crimes?bribery, dissemination of false information, involvement of public officials in elections, election-related violence, and mobilization of illegal organizations?and plan to conduct intensive crackdowns on these offenses.
Additionally, there will be a focus on cracking down on the spread of false information via social media, illegal activities related to opinion polls, and unlawful acts associated with party primaries.
A police official stated, "We will fulfill our roles and responsibilities to support a fair election."
