Police Conduct Special Crackdown on Illegal Rebates and Public Official Corruption... 2,617 Caught, 42 Arrested
The National Police Agency announced on the 9th that from September last year to March this year, a special crackdown on illegal rebates and public officials' corruption and misconduct resulted in the identification of a total of 2,617 individuals, with 1,394 referred to prosecution and 42 arrested.
The number of individuals cracked down on and referred by sector was recorded as follows: 1,050 individuals involved in illegal rebates were cracked down on, with 682 referred to prosecution (16 arrested), and 1,567 individuals involved in public officials' corruption and misconduct were cracked down on, with 712 referred to prosecution (26 arrested).
Looking at the detailed status, in the illegal rebate sector, the breakdown was ▲ medical and pharmaceutical sector: 597 individuals (5 arrested) ▲ construction industry sector: 292 individuals (4 arrested) ▲ public sector including government procurement: 83 individuals ▲ economic and financial sector: 78 individuals (7 arrested), in that order. In the public officials' corruption and misconduct sector, the breakdown was ▲ bribery: 526 individuals (15 arrested) ▲ financial corruption: 445 individuals (2 arrested) ▲ abuse of authority: 401 individuals (1 arrested) ▲ illegal mediation and solicitation: 120 individuals (8 arrested) ▲ information leakage: 75 individuals.
The police plan to maintain a continuous crackdown system on public officials' corruption and misconduct, and will continue strict investigations on cases (906 individuals) that were not concluded during the special crackdown period.

A police official stated, “In the second half of this year, we plan to intensify crackdowns on corruption and misconduct, focusing on direct investigation units of city and provincial police agencies,” adding, “Active reporting and tips from the public are more important than anything else.”
