Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, Passes Central Investment Review for 'Wood Education Comprehensive Center'
Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Bang Se-hwan) is advancing the ‘Carbon Neutral Wood Education Comprehensive Center Construction Project,’ which has conditionally passed the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Local Finance Central Investment Review.
According to Gwangju City on the 7th, this central investment review was re-evaluated reflecting the increased total project cost due to the addition of auxiliary facilities such as dormitories functioning as training centers for professional teachers and experts in education. The conditional approval is expected to accelerate the project’s progress.
The ‘Carbon Neutral Wood Education Comprehensive Center’ is the nation’s only citizen-participatory wood education space, serving as a hub facility to spread the awareness that ‘wood use = carbon neutrality’ through customized wood experiences and education tailored to each generation. This project has been promoted as a key initiative of Gwangju City since being selected for the Korea Forest Service’s ‘2023 Wooden Architecture Demonstration Project.’
Gwangju City has signed a tripartite business agreement with the National Institute of Forest Science and the Wood Culture Promotion Association, actively promoting various linked projects such as research and development, professional workforce training, and hosting forest expos, aiming to realize carbon neutrality through the spread of wood culture.
The center is scheduled for completion by December 2026 and is expected to play a pivotal role in developing Gwangju City into a representative wood culture city of South Korea.
