Since October last year, starting with Lee Ki-il, the First Vice Minister of Health and Welfare, local governments and public institutions have continued to join the campaign.
Mayor Kim joined the campaign at the request of Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon on February 28, and plans to nominate Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok and Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young, with whom he has formed the Haeoreum Alliance, as the next participants.
Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom said, "The population issue caused by low birth rates and aging is an important challenge that not only local governments but all of Korea must address together. Ulsan is striving to attract investment, create jobs, and build a city where people can get married, have children, and live happily."
According to Statistics Korea's announcement on February 26, 2024, the number of births in Ulsan for 2024 is 5,300, an increase of 200 (4%) compared to the previous year, and the total fertility rate stands at 0.86, ranking first among metropolitan cities and provinces.
