View original imageOn the 7th, National Assembly members from the Jeonbuk region of the Democratic Party of Korea stated, "The impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol is not the end, but a new beginning."
They held a press conference at the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Provincial Council, emphasizing, "Yoon Suk-yeol's unconstitutional attempt at martial law left deep scars, but the people overcame the crisis and once again proved the greatness of democracy."
The press conference was attended by Lee Wontak, Lee Sungyun, Shin Youngdae, Lee Choonseok, Han Byungdo, Park Heeseung, and Ahn Hoyoung. Chung Dongyoung, Yoon Junbyung, and Kim Yoondeok were absent due to other commitments.
The lawmakers stated, "Restoring constitutional order and revitalizing the people's livelihood and economy are the tasks of our time," and added, "Just as we passed the Saemangeum Special Act and the Metropolitan Transportation Special Act, we will resolve local issues to improve the lives of residents."
Regarding the Constitutional Court's impeachment decision, they said, "It is a historic event that reaffirmed the constitutional principle that 'politics exists solely for the people,'" and added, "The Democratic Party will respond to the people's will through politics of reform, unity, and harmony."
On the topic of an early presidential election, they made clear their intention to regain power. Ahn Hoyoung stated, "A change of government is the way to turn crisis into opportunity. We need the strength of the residents."
Lee Choonseok predicted, "If the presidential election schedule is confirmed, it is highly likely that Lee Jaemyung will resign to run. Park Chandae will serve as acting floor leader, and the election management system will soon be activated."
Regarding the constitutional amendment discussions, Lee Wontak said, "A constitutional amendment is necessary, but now is not the time," and added, "We must first resolve the insurrection situation and focus on restoring people's livelihoods."
