Over 30 Million KRW Raised in Just Three Days
Gangjin County, South Jeolla Province (Governor Kang Jinwon), launched a voluntary donation campaign to assist victims affected by the large-scale wildfire in Cheongsong, North Gyeongsang Province. On the 3rd, the county personally delivered the donations and relief supplies collected with care to the disaster relief team at the Cheongsong National Sports Center, the designated reception center in Cheongsong County.
According to the county, this donation and sharing initiative began as a warm fundraising campaign in collaboration with the Red Cross Volunteer Association. The campaign encouraged county office employees to save the equivalent of one cup of coffee (5,000 KRW) after meals and collectively donate the funds to help those affected by the disaster.
Almost all employees under the county office participated in the campaign to donate at least one unit (5,000 KRW) each, and within two days, the total donations exceeded 10 million KRW.

Upon hearing the news, the seven local agricultural and fisheries cooperatives in Gangjin County each donated between 1 million and 2 million KRW.
The Chillyang Industrial Complex Council also donated dried seaweed worth 6 million KRW, further spreading warmth throughout the region. In just three days, the total value of donations and relief goods surpassed 30 million KRW.
Gangjin County chose Cheongsong in North Gyeongsang Province as the recipient of the collected donations. Cheongsong County and Gangjin County have a continued relationship, having both been designated as leading tourism cities and maintaining exchanges in the tourism sector.
As 450 boxes containing pillows and daily necessities?items most needed in Cheongsong?along with vehicles loaded with dried seaweed and other relief goods departed, participants sent their warm hearts and messages of encouragement along with the supplies. All cash donations will also be designated specifically for Cheongsong through the Gwangju-Jeonnam branch of the Korean Red Cross.
Governor Kang Jinwon said, "I would like to express my deepest condolences to the residents of Cheongsong and other victims in North Gyeongsang Province who are experiencing great hardship due to this unexpected disaster. I hope that the small but heartfelt gifts from our residents will bring hope and comfort to those affected, and I sincerely thank everyone who participated in the donations."
This act of sharing has become more than a simple donation; it stands as a model case of 'practicing solidarity' and 'warm-hearted local governance' with the collective spirit of all Gangjin residents.
