Yeongdeungpo-gu Provides 400,000 Won Medical Expense Support for Pets of Vulnerable Households
Medical Expense Support for Pets of Basic Livelihood Security Recipients, Lower-Income Groups, and Single-Parent Families
Up to 400,000 KRW per Pet, Applications Allowed for up to Two Pets per Household
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will operate the ‘Our Neighborhood Animal Hospital’ project to reduce the medical expenses burden for pets of vulnerable guardians and to create a healthy urban environment where pets and people coexist.
The program targets basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income groups, and single-parent families, providing up to 400,000 KRW per pet. Applications can be made for up to two pets per household, and guardians must pay a co-payment of 5,000 KRW (up to 10,000 KRW) per visit. Pet registration is mandatory to apply.
The medical services include essential and optional treatments. Essential treatments cover ▲basic health check-ups ▲mandatory vaccinations (including rabies vaccination) ▲heartworm prevention medication. Optional treatments are supported upon request after essential treatments and include treatment of diseases found during the basic check-up and neutering surgery. Services for grooming purposes or simple prescriptions such as nutritional supplements are not supported.
Guardians wishing to receive medical expense support can visit designated ‘Our Neighborhood Animal Hospitals’ in the area, submit proof of vulnerable status, and receive treatment.
This year, the district selected and operates five ‘Our Neighborhood Animal Hospitals’ reflecting regional demand, making it more convenient for vulnerable guardians to receive medical support. Treatment is available at ▲Aram Animal Hospital (Yeongdeungpo-bon-dong) ▲Hangaram Animal Hospital (Singil 1-dong) ▲Wooshin General Animal Hospital (Singil 4-dong) ▲Elim Animal Hospital (Singil 7-dong) ▲Waltz Animal Hospital (Daerim 3-dong). For more details, contact the district office’s Life and Health Division.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “Pets also have the right to enjoy a healthy life as members of the family,” and added, “We will continue to strive to create a social environment where humans and animals coexist harmoniously and live healthily.”
