Jeong Cheol-won Wins Damyang County Governor Election with 51.82%
Kim Seon-min, Acting Leader: "A Mandate from the People for Healthy Competition"
Regarding the election of Jeong Cheol-won, the candidate from the Joguk Innovation Party, in the Jeonnam Damyang by-election, Kim Seon-min, acting leader of the Joguk Innovation Party, stated, "We will establish standards for healthy and responsible politics."
On the 2nd, Acting Leader Kim conveyed this message through a post on his Facebook page, saying, "We will become a stronger party moving forward." He added, "The victory in the Damyang County Governor election is not just for the Joguk Innovation Party," and "It is the joy of everyone who has received the solemn mandate from the people to eradicate internal rebellion forces and introduce healthy competition into politics."
Candidate Jeong won the Damyang County Governor by-election with 12,860 votes (51.82%), defeating the Democratic Party of Korea candidate Lee Jae-jong, who received 11,956 votes (48.17%). This marks the first time the Joguk Innovation Party has produced a local government head.
Hwang Hyun-seon, Secretary-General of the Joguk Innovation Party, also commented on the Damyang County Governor by-election results, saying, "We declared firm cooperation and productive competition, challenged local elections, and after the third attempt, we have now taken a step forward." He added, "I believe this election is an encouragement from the people to the Joguk Innovation Party, which fought at the forefront against the Yoon Seok-yeol administration."
Furthermore, Secretary-General Hwang said, "I think the Damyang election signifies the people's wish for local autonomy development through competition in Honam," and "It reflects the trust in the Joguk Innovation Party's promise to achieve regime change through grand unity in the presidential election."
He continued, "The challenge to build the grassroots organization of the Joguk Innovation Party will continue," and "We will strive even harder to be evaluated by our capabilities in the field of local autonomy through the party’s first county governor."
