Yeongdeok County Operates Integrated Support Center for Wildfire Victims
Support Provided Including Tax Deferment, Legal Consultation, and Medical Services
Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province will establish and operate an Integrated Support Center at the National Sports Center starting from the 31st to provide swift and systematic assistance to victims affected by the wildfire that lasted four days from the 25th.
The Integrated Support Center will include participation from nine organizations, including four departments under the county government, Yeongdeok Tax Office, Nonghyup, Korea Legal Aid Corporation, Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation, Yeongdeok Police Station, Yeongdeok Post Office, National Health Insurance Service, and Korea Electric Power Corporation.
The center will provide victims with services such as deferment of various taxes and national pension payments, emergency support for families in crisis, loans for disaster housing restoration and purchase, free legal consultation, counseling on reduction or exemption of various fees, and other victim support services.
Additionally, Yeongdeok County is supporting medical treatment and psychological counseling for wildfire victims at evacuation facilities such as the National Sports Center. Starting from the 31st, in cooperation with Pohang Medical Association and Pohang Medical Center, the county will operate a mobile health clinic visiting the disaster sites to care for the health of the displaced residents.
County Governor Kim Kwangyeol stated, "Given the severe damage caused by this wildfire, support and countermeasures for the victims must be more comprehensive and proactive," adding, "We will mobilize all administrative resources to quickly assess the damage and ensure prompt support and recovery."
The wildfire that broke out in Uiseong County, North Gyeongsang Province on the 22nd entered the Yeongdeok County area at around 5:54 p.m. on the 25th and burned an area of 8,050 hectares until the main fire was extinguished at 2:30 p.m. on the 28th.
As a result of this wildfire in Yeongdeok County, there were nine deaths and twelve injuries, and 1,356 houses, 46 vehicles, and 130 agricultural, fishery, and livestock facilities were completely destroyed.
