Changwon Special City Restricts Access to All Local Forests and Limits Hiking Trail Openings
Implementation of Administrative Order to Completely Block Wildfires in Spring Season
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam has announced the implementation of an 'Administrative Order Restricting Activities for Wildfire Prevention,' which includes restrictions on entry into all forest areas within the city and limited access to hiking trails, in consideration of the unprecedented wildfire damage caused by simultaneous large-scale wildfires nationwide, including in Sancheong and Uiseong, Gyeongbuk.
According to the city on the 31st, "This is an unavoidable measure in light of the current wildfire disaster crisis, with the wildfire crisis alert at the 'Severe' level nationwide in Korea. Major hiking trails will remain open for the health of citizens."
Additionally, the city emphasized, "In the current dry climate, even a small spark can lead to a large wildfire. Therefore, smoking and possession of flammable materials in forests, use of fire in or near forest areas, and burning of agricultural waste are strictly prohibited. We ask for the active cooperation of all citizens."
Meanwhile, Changwon City is mobilizing all available personnel, including public officials, village heads, and local organizations, to strengthen guidance and enforcement for wildfire prevention. The city also announced that strict administrative action will be taken against violations of relevant laws, such as illegal burning.
