Ulju County Temporarily Suspends 'Yeongnam Alps Completion Certification Program' in April
Response to Wildfire Disaster Alert Raised to "Serious" Level and Declaration of Special Disaster Zones
Temporary Restriction on App-Based Certification
Ulsan Ulju County announced on the 31st that it will temporarily suspend the "Yeongnam Alps Summit Certification Program" for the entire month of April to prevent large-scale wildfires that have recently occurred in succession.
Previously, Ulju County experienced wildfires in Onyang on the 22nd and in Eonyang on the 25th, resulting in the loss of 994 hectares of forest and damage to houses, warehouses, and other properties.
In addition, large-scale wildfires have broken out in various areas of Gyeongsang Province, including Uiseong and Sancheong, prompting the national wildfire disaster crisis alert to be raised to the "serious" level.
Accordingly, Ulju County will temporarily suspend the mobile app certification function of the "Yeongnam Alps Summit Certification Program" for the month of April to prevent wildfires and ensure the safety of participants.
During this period, participants will not be able to register certification photos through the mobile app while hiking, so extra caution is required.
An Ulju County official stated, "Due to the recent dry weather and strong winds, wildfires have continued to occur not only in Ulju County but also across the country. In order to protect the safety of participants and our precious forests, we are unavoidably suspending the mobile app certification temporarily, and we kindly ask for your understanding and cooperation."
The "Yeongnam Alps Summit Certification Program" currently operated by Ulju County is a participatory mountain program where participants climb famous peaks over 1,000 meters in the Yeongnam Alps and receive certification. It continues to gain great popularity this year as it actively promotes public health and mountain tourism.
