Born in 1997, Dr. Kang is the youngest person ever to be appointed at Korea University at the age of 27. Dr. Kang received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from GIST under the supervision of Professor Kim Tae in the field of neuroscience, then entered the integrated master's and doctoral program in the Department of Biomedical Science and Engineering at the same graduate school, obtaining a doctoral degree in just 4 years and 6 months. Afterwards, Dr. Kang worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, USA, conducting research on medical big data and neuroscience.
Dr. Kang is an expert in medical big data and neuroscience research, and has conducted translational neuroscience research combining Alzheimer's disease studies with medical big data.
The main research areas span a wide range from basic neuroscience to epidemiology and medical big data, aiming to establish an environment where both mechanism studies using mouse models and medical big data research can be conducted simultaneously.
Recently, in collaboration with Professor Yeon Donggeon’s research team at Kyung Hee University Medical Center, Dr. Kang conducted a target trial emulation study analyzing the impact of opioid analgesic exposure in pregnant women on the development of psychiatric disorders in children, a clinical trial that is otherwise difficult to perform. Over the past three years, Dr. Kang has published more than 70 SCI-level papers in leading scientific journals such as 'BMJ' (British Medical Journal) and 'Nature' sister journals, and has received numerous awards for outstanding presentations at various international and domestic academic conferences.
Dr. Kang stated, "Thanks to the organically connected research-oriented curriculum from bachelor's to doctoral studies at GIST, and the close guidance of professors as well as experience in joint research with leading overseas universities and research institutions, I was able to establish a solid research foundation. I will continue to respond flexibly to the changing academic environment and contribute to the advancement of global medical and health policy."
