Gyeongbuk Provincial Council Holds Emergency Session, Passes 220 Billion Won Supplementary Budget for Wildfire Disaster Relief
The Gyeongbuk Provincial Council (Chairman Park Seongman) will convene the 354th emergency temporary session on the 31st to process a supplementary budget bill aimed at the swift restoration of wildfire-affected areas and the recovery of the local economy.
This one-point emergency session was convened at the request of the Governor of Gyeongbuk on the 28th to handle the first supplementary budget bill for 2025 and will be held as a one-day session on the 31st.
The proposed budget, totaling approximately 220 billion KRW, includes emergency disaster relief funds for residents in five wildfire-affected cities and counties (Uiseong, Andong, Cheongsong, Yeongyang, Yeongdeok), as well as measures for the prompt restoration of human and facility damages, rapid stabilization of residents’ livelihoods, and psychological recovery support. The Gyeongbuk Provincial Council plans to hold a plenary session on this day, hear the budget proposal explanation from the governor, and immediately proceed with preliminary reviews by standing committees and the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts before processing the bill in the plenary session.
In his opening remarks, Chairman Park Seongman stated, “The recent large-scale wildfires have caused tremendous damage to residents’ livelihoods. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the residents and bereaved families who suffered great losses from this disaster,” and urged the executive branch to make every effort for swift recovery and support for the victims.
