Jung Chulwon, the candidate of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party in the Damyang County mayoral by-election in Jeollanam-do, stated on the 29th, "The early voting turnout of 37.92% in the Damyang County mayoral by-election reflects the residents' desire for change."
After the close of early voting, Jung released a press statement saying, "As public interest has increased, a high voter turnout was recorded despite the cold snap and unpredictable weather," adding, "This result reflects the unique nature of this election as the only local government head election being held in Honam, and as a barometer for gauging public sentiment in Honam ahead of the early presidential election."
He continued, "With the 9th nationwide local elections just one year and two months away and political hopefuls focusing their attention, the high voter turnout will serve as a positive catalyst for the development of local politics," and evaluated, "From the perspective of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, the competition with the Democratic Party is likened to a battle between David and Goliath, but we are leading the issue of change in local politics."
Jung emphasized, "In this Damyang County mayoral by-election, the recognition of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party candidate and the deep-rooted strength of a grassroots politician are particularly notable," adding, "Through active voter turnout campaigns over the next three days until the main vote, we aim to achieve a 60% turnout, gather public sentiment for change, innovation, and grassroots local autonomy, and respond to the residents' aspirations by winning the election."
