Prosecutor General's Office Holds Criminal Law Forum on 'Countermeasures to Prevent Obstruction of Justice'
The Supreme Prosecutors' Office announced on the 28th that it held a criminal law forum on the theme of 'Countermeasures to Prevent Judicial Obstruction.'
The first session's topic was 'Cases of Judicial Obstruction Examined Throughout the Entire Criminal Justice Procedure,' moderated by Professor Lee Geun-woo of the Department of Law at Gachon University, with Prosecutor Yoon Ki-hyung from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office presenting the basic content. Superintendent Lee Hu-rim from the Korean National Police University and public defender Choi Ik-gu from the Seoul Eastern District Court participated as discussants.
The second session reviewed 'Legislative Examples of Judicial Obstruction in Major Foreign Countries and Introduction Plans.' The session was moderated by Yoon Ji-young, head of the Criminal Law Research Office at the Korea Institute of Criminal Justice Policy. Associate Researcher Kim Min-gyu, Professor Won Jae-cheon of the Graduate School of International Law at Handong University, and Professor Yoo Ju-seong of the Department of Law at Changwon National University presented legislative examples from Germany, the United States, and France, respectively.
About 200 people, including professors, lawyers, law school students, and members of the prosecution, attended the forum. The Supreme Prosecutors' Office explained, "Recently, various acts of judicial obstruction aimed at negatively influencing judicial procedures have frequently occurred, but under current law, various forms of judicial obstruction are only passively regulated under crimes such as obstruction of official duties by intimidation, perjury, harboring a criminal, and destruction of evidence," adding, "there is a lack of active measures."
