Changwon Special City Seeks Participation of Local Companies in Postwar Reconstruction in Ukraine
Strategic Engagement with the Ukrainian Delegation
Intensive Discussions on Concrete Industrial Cooperation
On the 27th, Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam held an official meeting with a high-level delegation from Ukraine to discuss postwar reconstruction as well as industrial and economic cooperation measures.
This visit was organized to establish a multilateral cooperation and communication channel among local governments, companies, NGOs, and universities between Changwon and Ukraine, thereby laying a diplomatic foundation for future international cooperation in Ukraine’s reconstruction projects and the defense industry.
The Ukrainian delegation consisted of 41 representatives from various sectors, including Khrystyna Zamula, Vice Governor of Lviv Province, the President of Kyiv National Aviation University, a policy advisor from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, and the Director of International Cooperation of Odesa Province. They were accompanied by 13 officials from the Korea-Ukraine New Building Association, including President Lee Yangku.
The delegation held an official meeting with Mayor Hong Nam-pyo at Changwon City Hall to discuss cooperation for postwar reconstruction projects and the potential for linking Changwon’s advanced manufacturing and defense industries. In addition, during a roundtable at the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, they explored opportunities for Changwon-based companies to participate in Ukraine’s reconstruction projects and discussed concrete measures for Korean investment and cooperation.
Mayor Hong Nam-pyo stated, “We will actively share Changwon’s technological and industrial capabilities during Ukraine’s postwar recovery process and strengthen international solidarity through cooperation with Ukraine. We will spare no effort to build a practical economic and industrial cooperation model between the two countries.”
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian delegation visited Doosan Enerbility, a leading defense company in Changwon, where they toured the exhibition hall and production facilities, experiencing firsthand the city’s advanced technology and industrial capacity. Through this, the delegation confirmed the potential for technological cooperation with Korea and deepened discussions on expanding collaboration in the defense and manufacturing sectors.
