Gwangju Gwangsan-gu to Operate 'Resident Tourism Office' in Koryoin Village
Resident Guide-Centered Information Center
Full-Scale Launch of Alley Tours Showcasing History and Culture
Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju announced on the 27th that it will operate a "Resident Tourism Office" to provide visitors to the Koryoin Village with a more in-depth exploration experience. The Resident Tourism Office serves as a comprehensive exploration information center, offering guidance on the history and culture of Koryoin migration as well as visitor information. It is a newly renovated facility that has relocated the former "Village Guide House" from the outskirts of the village to near the central exploration route in Wolgok-dong, Gwangsan-gu.
This space is operated by the "Gwangju Koryoin Village Guide Association," which consists of local guides trained by Gwangsan-gu. It is part of the "Koryoin Village Revitalization Resident Participation Support Project," where residents directly plan and operate village promotion and exploration programs.
According to Gwangsan-gu, last year a total of 25 village guides provided 675 village tours to 3,595 visitors. This year, using the Resident Tourism Office as a base, they plan to further expand exploration programs and guidance activities.
The Resident Tourism Office held its opening ceremony on this day and will be open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting in April. The guides will not only provide explanations of the history and culture of the Koryoin Village but also handle reservations for exploration courses and event information. In particular, the highly popular "Koryoin Village Alley Tour" from last year will be expanded this year into specialized courses with themes such as art and history, starting in May. Sixty-four public art pieces installed throughout the village will also be incorporated into the exploration courses.
Park Byungkyu, the district mayor, said, "We will spare no effort to support Koryoin Village so that it can become a leading historical and cultural exploration destination in Gwangju."
