Gwangmyeong 'New Town Golmok Sangjeomga' Selected for Specialized Support Project
400 Million KRW Provided for Merchant Training and Design Improvements
A specialized alley commercial district project will be promoted in the 'New Town Alley Shopping District' near Gwangmyeong Traditional Market in Gwangmyeong-si, Gyeonggi-do.
Gwangmyeong City recently announced on the 26th that the New Town Alley Shop Merchants Association was selected in the Hope Commercial District Project category of the '2025 Alley Commercial District Specialization Support Project' organized by the Gyeonggi-do Market Commercial District Promotion Agency. The city explained that 400 million KRW will be provided for specialized development in this area as a result of this selection.
The 'Hope Commercial District Project category' supports business expenses such as merchant education, commercial district design improvement, and promotions for alley commercial districts whose management has deteriorated due to the entry of large distribution companies and redevelopment.
The New Town Alley Shop Merchants Association is a commercial district revitalization group organized in 2021 by shops around Mokgam-ro 268beon-gil, currently with 49 member stores.
Through the support project, the merchants' association plans to improve the environment by creating a 'Street of Light' throughout the commercial district. They also intend to strengthen identity by developing a merchants' association logo and revitalize the commercial district by creating a 70s and 80s retro-themed street. Cultural and artistic events such as traveling concerts will also be held in the shopping street area in cooperation with the Gwangmyeong Cultural Foundation.
