Planned Inspection Launched After Three Serious Accidents in a Month
Ministry of Employment and Labor to Investigate Violations and Strengthen Safety Management
The Ministry of Employment and Labor has launched a planned inspection of Hyundai Engineering's headquarters and construction sites after six people died in three accidents within a month at Hyundai Engineering construction sites.
On the 26th, the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced that it will promptly investigate violations of the Industrial Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act related to the three recent serious accidents at Hyundai Engineering, and take legal action against any illegal activities. The ministry also decided to conduct additional planned inspections targeting 25 sites, accounting for 30% of the 83 construction sites nationwide where Hyundai Engineering headquarters and the company are carrying out construction.
Previously, one fatality occurred at a new officetel construction site in Asan-si, Chungnam, operated by Hyundai Engineering. On the 10th, there was an accident at a new apartment construction site in Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi, resulting in one death and one injury. On the 25th of last month, a collapse accident occurred during the construction of the Sejong-Anseong highway, causing four deaths and a total of 10 casualties.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, considering the concentration of fatal accidents in the construction industry recently, decided to focus on managing the industry next month for the purpose of preventing serious accidents. A period for voluntary inspection and improvement of construction sites will be operated until the 6th of next month, and from the 7th, the ministry plans to oversee the Industrial Safety and Health Act comprehensively at 1,000 construction sites with high accident risk. The ministry stated, "We plan to strictly take administrative and legal actions against any sites found violating the law during the inspection process."
