Kim Dong-yeon Visits Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters: "We Must Actively Support Gyeongbuk Wildfire as Our Own"
Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, suspended his planned solo protest demanding the immediate dismissal of Yoon Seok-yeol as wildfires that started in Uiseong, Gyeongbuk, spread to four cities and counties in the northeastern region including Andong. Instead, he visited the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters situation room to check on wildfire prevention efforts in Gyeonggi Province and the firefighting status in Gyeongbuk, and to encourage the firefighters.
On the morning of the 26th at around 8:30 a.m., Governor Kim visited the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters situation room in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, and said, "Due to the strong winds, the fire could spread in any direction, so please pay special attention to the safety management of the firefighters." He added, "If additional firefighting personnel are needed, I hope preparations can be made so that we can provide further support from Gyeonggi Province."
He continued, "There are many large and small wildfires occurring in Gyeonggi Province as well, so please thoroughly prepare for wildfire management and prevention to suppress them early and avoid damage."

View original imageRegarding the current wildfires, Gyeonggi Province initially dispatched 27 firefighting personnel and about 10 pieces of equipment including pump trucks on the 22nd. Up to now, 180 firefighters, 40 pumps, 28 water tanks, and a total of 69 pieces of equipment have been deployed to the Uiseong area and others.
Additionally, as of 6 a.m. on the same day, the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters personnel have protected 1,188 households, provided water supply support 224 times, and conducted wildfire suppression activities over an area of 295,040 square meters. Furthermore, in the Uiseong area of Gyeongbuk, rest buses and six operating personnel have been stationed to provide rest spaces for firefighting personnel and volunteers.
Moreover, on the 25th, it was decided to support 500 million won from the disaster relief fund for the rapid recovery of large wildfire-affected areas including Ulsan, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeongnam.
Gyeonggi Province plans to provide additional relief personnel and supplies depending on the situation on the ground.

Meanwhile, public officials from 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province have formed a rapid response team and are on emergency duty. Also, 1,800 wildfire monitors have been deployed to parks, cemeteries, and mountain trail entrances to strengthen wildfire surveillance and crack down on illegal burning.
