Gyeongbuk Education Superintendent Im Jongshik Urges Japan to Immediately Stop Historical Distortion and Territorial Claims Over Dokdo
Condemning the Approval of Distorted Textbooks
Calling for an End to Japan's Misrepresentation of Dokdo's Sovereignty
The North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) expressed deep regret and strongly condemned the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology for approving a social studies textbook on the 25th that describes Dokdo as Japanese territory.
Numerous historical records and documents support that Dokdo is the territory of the Republic of Korea, and Korea is exercising firm sovereignty over Dokdo. Nevertheless, the Japanese government continues to distort history regarding Dokdo through education for its own students.
In particular, education must teach the truth, and it is most important to instill a correct sense of history in students. However, the textbooks approved by the Japanese government distort historical facts and attempt to instill false information in students. This is a serious problem that undermines the essence of education.
Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education, stated, “The Japanese government must immediately stop distorting history regarding its claim to sovereignty over Dokdo and implement objective and fact-based education so that students can learn the correct history.” He added, “The North Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education will strengthen education on Dokdo so that our students can learn the historical truth about Dokdo correctly and deeply recognize the value of the territory of the Republic of Korea.”
