Siheung-si "Conducts Emergency Safety Inspection to Prevent Sinkholes"
Comprehensive Inspection of All Road Excavation Permit Areas
Emergency Safety Measures Following Sinkhole Incident in Seoul
Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province is launching an emergency safety inspection to prevent the possibility of ground subsidence (sinkholes). This response measure comes amid growing public concern following a sinkhole accident that occurred on the 24th in Myeongil-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul.
On the 26th, Siheung City announced that it will conduct a comprehensive inspection by the end of this month on areas subject to road occupancy (excavation) permits within its jurisdiction.
The city plans to assess the stability of roads through a status survey of excavation sites currently under construction this year, including four large-scale excavation sites and 29 small-scale excavation sites. If any deficiencies are found, the city intends to initiate administrative procedures such as requesting corrective actions. Through this, the city aims to strengthen the maintenance level of road facilities, prevent accidents, and establish a rapid response system.
In particular, Siheung City will establish a sequential inspection plan during the first half of the year for excavation permit sections over the past three years from 2023 to this year, continuously monitoring the condition of road facilities and conducting immediate repairs and reinforcements as necessary. When issuing excavation permits, safety management guidelines will be distributed to minimize the risk of disasters such as ground subsidence.
