Board of Audit and Inspection says "Inappropriate to draw conclusions" on National Assembly's 'KCC audit request'
45 Audit Requests by the 22nd National Assembly
First Result Announced
On the 25th, the Board of Audit and Inspection effectively dismissed the audit requested by the National Assembly regarding the "illegal dual leadership structure of the Korea Communications Commission and the appointment process of public broadcasting directors."
On the same day, the Board of Audit and Inspection stated, "Considering that the composition of the Korea Communications Commission involves procedures such as National Assembly recommendation and presidential nomination and appointment, that a substantive lawsuit is ongoing regarding the illegality of the dual leadership decision-making, and that cases such as public audit requests exclude investigation and trial matters from the audit scope (dismissal), it is deemed inappropriate for the Board of Audit and Inspection to draw a conclusion on the legality of the dual leadership decision-making."
According to the audit report, the Board of Audit and Inspection judged that it is inappropriate to conclude on all four matters, including the "audit on the illegal operation of the Korea Communications Commission based on the dual leadership appointed by the president."
The Board of Audit and Inspection considered that since the Constitutional Court dismissed the impeachment trial of Lee Jin-sook, Chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission, and lawsuits are currently ongoing in the courts, it is inappropriate for the Board of Audit and Inspection to conclude on the legality or illegality of these matters.
