Yeoju Urban Corporation Holds 'EM Soil Ball Throwing Event' to Commemorate World Water Day
Gyeonggi Yeoju Urban Corporation announced on the 25th that it held an ‘EM Soil Ball Throwing Event’ for environmental protection and water quality improvement at Ipobo Camping Site on the 22nd to commemorate ‘World Water Day (March 22).’
EM soil balls are made by fermenting a mixture of Effective Micro-organisms (EM) solution and loess for more than a week. When thrown into rivers or streams, they gradually decompose and are known to be highly effective in water purification, odor removal, organic matter fermentation, and organic matter decomposition.
After providing preliminary education on environmental protection to about 30 citizens and children participating in the event, EM soil ball making kits were distributed to conduct the making and throwing of EM soil balls. Participants made soil balls themselves at the camping site and threw 600 pre-made EM soil balls into the stream, realizing the importance of water resource protection and pledging to create clean water.
