Gyeonggi-do Provides 500 Million Won, Personnel, and Equipment Support to Wildfire-Affected Areas in Ulsan, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeongnam
Gyeonggi Province will support manpower and equipment along with 500 million won from the disaster relief fund for the rapid recovery of large wildfire-affected areas such as Ulsan, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeongnam.
Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, said on the 24th, "I express my deepest condolences to the firefighters and public officials who died in the line of duty during the wildfire suppression process," adding, "Gyeonggi Province has decided to provide support to share the pain of the affected residents and help them quickly return to their daily lives."
He continued, "We will do our best until the end to protect the lives and safety of the residents from wildfires," and urged, "We ask the residents to actively cooperate in efforts to prevent wildfires."
Gyeonggi Province activated an emergency response system related to this wildfire and initially supported 27 firefighting personnel and about 10 pieces of equipment, including pump trucks, on the 22nd.
On the night of the 24th, an additional 168 firefighting personnel and 65 fire trucks were dispatched, and three Gyeonggi Province wildfire suppression helicopters were urgently deployed to the site to prevent the spread of the wildfire in areas such as Andong.
Additionally, in the Uiseong area of Gyeongbuk, a shelter bus and six operating personnel were deployed to provide rest spaces for firefighting personnel and volunteers.
Gyeonggi Province plans to provide additional relief personnel and supplies depending on the situation on the ground. It will also operate psychological recovery programs for disaster victims and recovery participants if requested by the affected areas.
Meanwhile, to prevent spring wildfires, Gyeonggi Province has deployed 1,800 wildfire watchers to conduct wildfire prevention and monitoring activities in vulnerable areas, and has deployed 165 wildfire suppression teams to support the collection and shredding of agricultural byproducts, which are a major cause of wildfires.
